Fort Worden Building 202 Renovation
Fort Worden Building 202 Renovation
In June of 2016 Pease Construction was contracted with the State of Washington Department of Enterprise Services for the Fort Worden Building 202 Renovation – Peninsula College at Port Townsend facility project.
The renovation of Historic Building 202 at Fort Worden State Park (originally an army barracks) combined a faithful restoration of the exterior with an adaptive reuse of the interior for education. The renovation process included demolition of the 14,000 square foot building down to its original rough sawn framing. The interior was rebuilt and modernized with new framing, mechanical and electrical. New windows and doors were installed throughout the building and the south side doors were removed and replaced to be historically correct. On the north side of the building the doors were replaced to provide a more modern look with glass panes, and bamboo was used for the interior treads and landing of the stairs to provide a more modern look.
The historic renovation of the building’s exterior included removing and replacing windows to be historically correct. Before the new windows were installed, portions of the siding were removed to allow for window replacement. Historic wood columns were removed, structurally upgraded, restored and rebuilt for the south porch, and the north exterior was upgraded with new ADA compliant ramps and bamboo decking. After all the siding and trim had been repaired or replaced the entire building was repainted.
